Much like Ilex, but the pet narrow and distinct, the stamens free from the pet, and the sep minute or obsolete (or those of the pistillate fls more evident but deciduous as the fr matures); fls 4-5-merous, 1(-3) in the axils, notably long- pedicellate; fr red (yellow). Only 2 spp.
