Plant: Perennial 5-30 cm, generally cespitose; caudex woody; stem simple, erect, spreading bristly Leaves: 1.5-5 cm, simple, entire, oblanceolate to spoon-shaped, strigose to ± tomentose and bristly; bristles appressed, bulbous-based; basal whorled; cauline generally opposite below, alternate above INFLORESCENCE: cymes, dense, cylindric, generally terminal Flowers: sepals 2.5-5 mm, 5-10 mm in fruit; corolla generally white, tube generally 1-13 mm, corolla limb 4-10 mm wide, appendages 5, white to yellow; anthers included; ovary generally 4-lobed Fruit: Fruit: nutlets 1-4, 2.5-4.5 mm, ovate, back rough, groove on inside surface open, narrow to triangular, edges not elevated Misc: Gravelly soils; 1700-3600 m.; Jun-Aug
