Locality: United States, California, Monterey, Carmel Heights, Malpaso Canyon, ca. 1 mile east from Highway 1 along dirt road on lower south-facing canyon slope.
Elevation: 290 meters Verbatim Elevation: 500?950ft.
Habitat: Coastal scrub hillside above canyon with corridor of redwoods in canyon bottom. Shrub cover dominated by Eriogonum parvifolium, Eriophyllum confertiflorum, Lotus scoparius, Toxicodendron diversilobum, Mimulus aurantiacus, and Lupinus albifrons. Ceanothus thyrsiflorus occasional. Common herbs on hillside include Phacelia malvifolia, Stephanomeria sp., Scrophularia californica, Achillea millefolium, Calystegia macrostegia, Clarkia unguiculata, Potentilla glandulosa, Eschscholzia californica, and Dudleya sp.; Scattered in low coastal scrub on steep south-facing hillside. Vicinity of 36.47976°N x 121.91090 °W.
Description: Plants in population with corolla color ranging from red to magenta. Plant D with corolla dark reddish purple, anther tube, and style a bright magenta-purple. Plant more than 1 m tall.
