Locality:
United States, California, Los Angeles, North foothills of San Gabriel Mountains, Elizabeth Lake Road, 3.3 miles west of California Route 14, 0.9 mile west of Highland Street (25th Street West), west of Palmdale. Vicinity of Armagosa Creek. Elevation about 2800 feet.
Habitat:
Southwestern Mojave Desert, Joshua tree - juniper flats and open woodland. Dominants: Yucca brevifolia, Juniperus californica, Ephedra nevadensis.; Common scattered tree 4 meters tall with both flowers and fruits. Flowers dull cream-green, tepals inrolled over pistil, filaments swollen - clavate hooded with tiny yellow anthers. Leaves firm, with sharp spine; stems pithy fibrous within.
