Edge of swamp woods along highway, secondary woods with Taxodium, Acer rubrum, Salix, Populus, Celtis, Acer negundo, Fraxinus profunda, Nyssa aquatica. Tree 10m tall, several trunked from base, trunks somewhat swollen at base, dbh to 30cm. Bark gray, finely prominently furrowed, furrows not prominently reticulate. Branches weak-wooded. Leaflets glossy dark green above, paler green beneath. Fruit green, wing often reddish-tinged on one side. Common, edge of water in shallow water. Sheet #1 of 3.
