Habitat: On sandy and gravelly 20 to 40 degree slopes. Xeric to moderately xeric SE, E and NE aspect. Full sun. Coastal Sage community with Eriogonum dominant, then, Quercus sp. (shrub) and some Ceanothus, Baccharus sarathroides, Salvia apiana and Malosma present.
Notes: Annual gramminoid. to 20 in. Many slender stems branching from common base. Leaves dull green and wine, seed heads maturing to wine purple color.
