Habitat: Steep hills and canyons in poorly consolidated silty sediments; burned (c. 3 yrs. ago) chaparral with coastal sage and riparian patches, Yucca schidigera and Opuntia locally common. Very dry year (so far, driest since 1882) and few annuals present, except a thin cover of weedy grasses, many of those failing; shrubs mostly stressed.
Notes: Uncommon annual on clay flats in south central part of section, with other herbs in shallow depression beside dirt road where water accumulates; fls. orange-yellow.
