Hodgson, s. n., 11 May 1992, from Arizona, Santa Cruz County, Tumacacori Mountains, Rock Corral Canyon, ca 1-1.5 miles WSW of Rock Corral Spring along creek and trail, lower SW1/4 of S35 T21 S R12 E, elevation 3700 feet; collector's notes: associated species-Ziziphus, Prosopis, Chenopodium, Cirsium; description: Yellow-flowered form at the edge of a Mesquite bosque, to 2 feet tall only, only yellow-flowered one seen, typical rose/magenta form present.
Multi-branching plant, joints are blue-gray-green, slightly tuberculate; spines are tan or brown or gray with darker tips; flowers collected early afternoon, flower diameter 39-50 mm, length 50-72 mm, outer perianth yellow-green with greenish-yellow midstripe, inner perianth light yellow at tips, green at base; stigma lobe number 8-10, color light yellow, additional flowers collected May 2008; fruit collected 30 October 2007, dry fruit gray or tan, diameter 16-19 mm, length 26-34 mm, fleshy fruit yellow-green, diameter 28-37 mm, length 34-44 mm; seeds golden tan, 4 mm.
