Flower diameter 30-45 mm, length 42-55 mm, stigma number 3-5, stigma color yellow, outer perianth color pink or pumpkin, inner perianth color pumpkin with red mid strip; filament color green; bees visiting flowers, flowers collected mid-morning; Joints collected by Joni Ward, 14 November 1995; spines on joints reddish-brown or gold; fruits collected by Rosemary Trelease and Nancy Foisy, 30 October 2001, fruit dry at maturity, diameter 13-19 mm, length 15-22 mm, gray-beige or light charcoal, many clusters of spines on fruit, spines 17 mm and longer, golden-yellow with red tinge; seeds light brown.
