Habitat: edge of Pseudotsuga menziesii forest with Abies concolor, Pinus strobiformis, and Populus tremuloides; ravine of dark brown-gray limestone soil with Achillea millefolium, Bromus ciliatus, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Carex occidentalis, Chenopodium graveolens, C. paganum, Cirsium inornatum, Cystopteris fragilis, Dugaldia hoopsii, Erysimum capitatum, Fragaria americana, Geranium richardsonii, Iris missouriensis, Mertensia ciliata, Prunella vulgaris, and Valeriana edulis.
Description: Erect perennial herb; herbage with pungent odor; bracts of inflorescence purple; flowers violet-blue.
