Growing among rocks on talus slope ca.2 meters W of Old Lime Creek Road. Moderately moist although shade is somewhat limited. Slope is about 25°; facing east-northeast. Aspen-dominated enclave within the Spruce-Fir Forest Community.
Soil deposits on the talus slope are relatively deep but thoroughly mixed with rocks of all sizes. They have derived by in situ and colluvial processes from Twilight Granite and organics.
Common in this area on open talus deposits. This is the largest specimen observed during fieldwork in Colorado, and it grew in an unusually sunny locality.
