Habitat: Dry, bouldery drainage in pinyon-juniper-oak woodland.
Associated Species: Pinus discolor, Juniperus deppeana, Quercus hypoleucoides, Quercus arizonica, Rhus aromatica, Yucca schottii, Arbutus arizonica, Garrya wrightii, Agave palmeri, Nolina microcarpa, Cercocarpus breviflorus, Dalea versicolor, Muhlenbergia emersleyi, Ceanothus sp.
Description: Perennial forb, 55 cm, locally frequent; flowers red, visited by Poanes taxiles skippers.
