Habitat: Level, disturbed ground in mesquite grassland.
Associated Species: Prosopis velutina, Fouquieria splendens, Ziziphus obtusifolia, Eragrostis lehmanniana, Bothriochloa barbinodis, Cenchrus ciliaris, Calliandra eriophylla, Chloris virgata, Aristida ternipes.
Description: Erect annual forb, 25 cm; leaves compound; flowers yellow, ageing red; fruits inflated and rattling when dry.
