Habitat: Rare on property, noted only at this site; stems numerous, forming colonies 6 ft. in diam., in open mesquite woodland with denser shrub layer, on calcareous, moderately alkaline, light brownish-gray, fine sandy loam (Copita Series). Associates include Prosopis glandulosa, Guaiacum angustifolium, Acacia wrightii var. wrightii, Opuntia leptocaulis, Parkinsonia cf. texana.
