Habitat: In level clearing with thin pine duff. Very loose sandy soil. Mature Pine-Oak woodland with Juniperus, Ilex, Callicarpa, Opuntia, Cnidoscolus, Vitis, Rubus, and Rhus toxicodendron. Upright perennial 60 cm tall. Fls purple. Locally common.
Reproductive Condition: flowering + fruiting=mid
