Habitat: Desert scrub flats.

Associated Species: Larrea tridentata, Olneya tesota, Carnegiea gigantea, Echinocereus engelmannii, Cylindropuntia fulgida, C. leptocaulis, Krameria, Ambrosia deltoidea, A. dumosa.

Description: Local to frequent, plants 2 m high x 2 m wide, spines red-brown. Flowers collected 10, 12 April 2009 by Wendy Hodgson: flowers 59(l)x49(w) mm, 66x40 mm, 58x61 mm, 62x42 mm; outer perianth dark brick red-maroon, inner perianth brick red, filaments yellow-green basally soon becoming red-pink distally, anthers light yellow, style cream-white flushed with light pink distally, stigma lobes light cream-green.
