Plant: Perennial, glabrous, often robust; stem: wings often 2 mm or more wide Leaves: even-1-pinnate; stipules persistent, small or large; leaflets 2, 5-14 cm, lanceolate to ovate; tendril branched, coiled INFLORESCENCE: raceme, generally axillary, 4-15-flowered Flowers: calyx tube > lobes, upper calyx lobes generally < and wider than lower; corolla 20-25 mm, pink, pink-purple, or red; 9 filaments fused, 1 free; style flat, finely hairy on concave side Fruit: legume, glabrous, dehiscent, oblong, ± flat; Seeds 1-several, often ± reniform, generally hard, smooth Misc: Disturbed areas, especially roadsides; generally < 2000 m.
