Plant: Annual forb to 40 cm; herbage glandular, with stiff hairs Leaves: leaves alternate, entire to bipinnate, 20-80(120) mm, abruptly reduced upwards, larger leaves basal Inflorescence: cyme, generally dense, helicoid (curled at the tip like a scorpion's tail), generally 1-sided; pedicels generally short Flowers: pedicel 0.5-2 mm; calyx lobes 2-5 mm, 3-5.5 mm in fruit, oblong, puberulent to short-hairy, glandular; corolla 4-10 mm, bell-shaped, blue to purple, throat ± white, deciduous, scales ± narrow; stamens 10-15 mm, glabrous; style 12-15 mm, glandular-puberulent Fruit: capsule, 2.5-4 mm, ovoid to spheric, puberulent; Seeds generally 4, 2-3.5 mm,oblong to spheric, generally brownish; back finely pitted; inner surface with central ridge separating 2 longitudinal grooves Misc: Sandy to gravelly washes, slopes; < 2200 m.
