Plant: Perennial 13-44 cm; caudex woody; stem simple, erect, tomentose below, strigose and sparsely bristly above Leaves: 3-12 cm, ± oblanceolate; upper surface strigose; lower surface also with bulbous-based bristles; basal whorled; cauline generally opposite below, alternate above, simple, entire INFLORESCENCE: cymes, generally elongated in fruit, generally dense, ± head-like at tip; axillary clusters below Flowers: sepals free, 6-10 mm, 9-14 in fruit, strigose and spreading-bristly; corolla yellow, tube 9-13 mm, limb 8-12 mm wide; anthers included; ovary generally 4-lobed Fruit: Fruit: nutlets generally 4, 3-4 mm, ovate to deltate, back smooth, groove on inside surface closed, edges ± overlapping Misc: Dry, rocky soils; 1200-2700 m.; May-Jul
