Subshrubs or shrubs, 20-60+ cm; internodes mostly 10-30 mm. Leaf blades mostly filiform, 10-40 × 1-2 mm. Phyllaries 7-10, oblanceolate to linear, 6-10 mm. Florets mostly 40-80+; corollas yellow, 5-8 mm. Cypselae 3.5-5.5 mm; pappi: longer bristles 6-7.5 mm. 2n = 24. Flowering spring-fall. Sandy, gravelly, and rocky sites, calcareous or igneous soils, with desert scrub; 500-1400 m; N.Mex., Tex; Mexico (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León).
