Basin mostly alpine with extensive areas herbaceous alpine cover. Lodgepole for. in French Canyon up to ca. 10,400 ft; subalpine for. to 11,000 ft (even 11,200 ft) on FAVORED rocky slopes; occasional Pinus albicaulis krumholtz to 11,200 ft - rare specimens to 12,000 ft.
Pinus contorta subsp. murrayana
This fern in a tiny ravine eroded about midway of steep gravelly, rocky slope, NW above broad level section just below and south of Pine Creek Pass. Two sm. Pinus contorta var. murrayana (30" and 60") seen in this ravine far above their normal range. Good herb list.
