Locally abundant in a weedy waste corner of a pasture, on a hillside under walnut trees. Female (pistillate) plant with "bronze" calyx. Note: Some plants with purplish veins in the calyx (= "bronze"), some with green veins in the calyx. Mr. Dunn mentioned that in the male plants bronze was more common than green;in the female plants bronze and green were about equally common. In the male plants, the bronze appears to have a larger calyx: bronze - calyx c. 8-9 mm in diameter and c. 20 mm long. green - calyx c. 5-6 mm in diameter and c. 17-19 mm long.
