Shrub to 8dm tall from several trunks, outer stems decumbent, rooting and eventually forming new trunks; joints and green fruits caducous, falling, rooting, and producing new shoots; stems green, ca. gray-glaucous; spines purple-brown, pale yellow at tip; sheaths very pale at base, pale yellow-brown toward apex; fruit green to red, one red fruit with green stem from areole, spineless, wtih long pale brown glochidia; common and abundant.
