Habitat: Growing at margin of small shrubs (Franseria etc.) or in open; sandy soil of desert wash.
Associated Species: Franseria, Yucca, Larrea.
Description: Annual, 1 to many stems from base; basal rosette leaves succulent; tack-shaped red glands on stems and involucre, a few plants glandless; buds nutant, involucral bracts usually red-tipped, ligules clear yellow, tinged dorsally with red.
