Limestone chips in red, sandy soil; very barren desert
Pediocactus bradyi, Opuntia (polyacantha var.) nicholii; Chenopodiaceous shrublets and a few other perennials
Locally abundant; in full bloom; inner tepals magenta, straight, ascending; diameters of representative flowering stems on seven different plants: 40, 46, 50, 50, 52, 52, 60 mm); rib numbers of eight plants: 11, 11-12, 12, 12-13, 12-13, 13, 13, 14; plant collected and pressed was barely mature; at diameter of 37mm, length of 68mm (41mm of which was above ground), with 12 ribs; voucher for small box bristling with unpressed areoles, representing largest and smallest central spines from each of the plants represented by the rib counts reported above; flower [in packet] pressed in the field, attachment scar is conspicuous on the stem
