Locality: United States, California, San Bernardino, Vicinity of the San Andreas Fault, east side of Swarthout Canyon Road along Cajon Creek south of its crossing, San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino Mountains; west of Route I-15. Elevation 2670-2720 feet.

Habitat: Margins of wash with boulders of metamorphic, granitic gneiss, schist substrate, well-drained sand, gravel.; Margin of chaparral, shrubland, in creek wash. Dominants: Eriogonum fasciculatum, Platanus racemosa, Ceanothus spp., Phacelia spp., Lupinus spp., Eriodictyum trichocalyx.; Low, local pale grey-green herb with small lateral ascending branches; soft pubescent, stems tinted maroon; flowers reddish-purple to maroon.
