Habitat: East-west mesas and drainages. Tall Ferron sandstone mesa to west (Coal Cliffs) runs N-S. Slope varies, desert shrub zone. Total cover 15%. Dominant shrubs shadscale, Gutierrezia. Dominant grass Hilaria jamesii. A very few scattered junipers, Abronia. Surface rock to 80%, to large cobbles; limestone, sandstone, quartz, and shale. Parent rock Tununk shale, and alluvium and colluvium from Ferron sandstone.
