Locality: United States, California, Orange, near head of Holy Jim Canyon, a major tributary of Trabuco Canyon, along the trail in the switchbacks, below the towers on Santiago Peak

Elevation: 998 meters (3273ft)
Habitat: Chaparral 2-3 m tall, on NE-facing slope with Fraxinus dipetala, Quercus berberidifolia, Eriogonum fasciculatum foliolosum, Eriogonum fasciculatum polifolium, Rhamnus ilicifolia, Salvia apiana, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, Yucca whipplei, Quercus wislizenii, Trifolium willdenovii, Cordylanthus rigidus, etc. Canyon just below with Pseudotsuga.
Notes: Fairly common rhizomatous subshrub, especially in openings in chaparral. Slender creeping underground stems; species distinctly colonial. Foliage minty-scented.
