Almost flat area on barren desert pavement of broken calcareous chips, clayey soil and rock crevices; ca. 50% vegetated with Artemisia nova, Helianthella microcephela, Orthocarpus sp., Packera mancosana, grasses and other spp. just beginning growth; growing in open areas and in dense mats of Packera mancosana; taprooted plants smothered with flowers; phyllaries in 5+ rows; rays white, disc yellow; disc pappus >> ray pappus; abundant and widespread.
Fine clay and rocks of highly calcareous Mancos Shale.
