Habitat: Juniper-Pine-Oak forest with some riparian trees and shrubs.
Description: Evergreen shrub, frequent, height 4 feet, diameter 6 feet; older stems appear black, newer stems are reddish-brown; leaves are gray-green, alternate, 3-foliolate, toothed with spiny tips; fruits are moist, fleshy, red and/or yellow with a hard exterior.
Notes: Collected under permit USDA Forest Service permit number RO-173.
