Mexico, Baja California, Originally received into the DBG living collection as seed collected by Jon Rebman 2560, 9 April 1994, from Mexico, Baja California, San Felipe Desert at the base of Sierra San Pedro Martir near Rancho las Animas (para type) growing in a sandy area with many large granite boulders with Pachycereus pringlei, Olneya tesota, Mammillaria dioca, Opuntia tesajo, Ferocactus, Lophocereus schottii, Prosopis, Cercidium, Bursera microphylla, B. hindsiana, Hyptis, Lycium, Fouquieria; collector's plant description: Plants to 2 m tall with linear, ascending habit; tubercules long; fruits spiny.

Description:
Plant height 1 m, diameter 0.5 m; stems yellow-green or blue-gray-green; spines golden or cream with sheaths, gray without sheaths; flowers collected late afternoon, additional flowers collected May 2010, flower diameter 43-60 mm, length 43-57 mm, outer perianth yellow-green with a wide greenish-red midstripe, inner perianth bright yellow-green, greener at base; stigma lobe number 6-8, pale yellow-green; style cream or white; filaments yellow-green or pale green; anthers yellow.
