Description: Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra). Trail at Salt Marsh Nature Center, Marine Park, Brooklyn, NY. Showing whitish "bloom" on upper stem and leaf petioles that is often confused with the hairiness (pilosity) of Rhus typhina. Additional close-up photos show this "bloom" is quite smooth! Automated ID suggestions of iNaturalist app unreliable for Rhus glabra/Rhus typhina identifications as there seem to be many Rhus glabra misidentified as Rhus typhina in the iNaturalist database. (See earlier Staghorn Sumac Rhus typhina observation for comparison with that species.)
