United States, Florida, Alachua, United States: Florida: Alachua County. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens; next to the walkway in The Palm Hammock. Open mowed sunny area. Clustered palm with a total height of ca. 15 feet and 9 secondary stems; leaves mostly erect, ca. 4.2 meters long; leaflets gray-green and in several planes; abaxial rachis glaucous; leaflets on lower 1.3 meters of rachis are spines. Inflorescence opened recently, same length as prophyll; branches erect, main axis and lower portion of branches very pale green; pistillate flowers cream. Prophyll dark yellow and smooth adaxially; green with an orange tip and covered with brown hairs abaxially. Older inflorescences are twice as long as the prophyll.
