State-owned prairie fen (public hunting) with mostly sedge meadow zones and interspersed small marl zones. Several manmade channels and small creeks run through it. Prevelant vegetation includes Carex sterilis, Dasiphora fruticosa, Larix laricina, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Doellingeria umbellata, Eutrochium maculatum, Scheonoplectus tabernaimontanii, Rhamnus alnifolia, and Cornus. Heavy invasion of Frangula alnus. Some Toxicodendron vernix but is not dense in most areas. Evidence of recent burn with burnt logs, snags, small brush, and little dead ground vegetation in some areas. Also evidence of humans and possible ATV traffic. In south-central portion of prairie fen, 150m north of Perryville Road, 20m east of Typha angustifolia and possibly T. x glauca, 20m north of oak and elm grove. Sedge meadow dominated by Carex, Asteraceae, Thelypteris palustris, and Pycnanthemum virginianum. Shrubs over 2m tall common every 9m2; saplings under 1m tall every 1m2. Shrub species include Frangula alnus, Toxicodendron vernix, Betula pumila, Salix, and Cornus. Ground hummocky and moist. Occasional ant mounds.
