Habitat: Sagebrush shrubland with Psilochenia and Chaenactis douglasii.

Notes: Pale purple flowers; basal leaves same as stem leaves and persisiting; spines reflexed on phyllaries; leaves bi-colored-upper surface silky hairy but green, underside tomentose; edge of phyllaries ciliate but not erose.
