Habitat: Rocky alpine tundra with white-clay frost heaves, calcareous soil, in open clearings between willows. Locally common on open ridgetops and banks.

Notes: Potentilla ovina J. M. Macoun var. decurrens (Wats.). Det. Barry C. Johnston, 1980. Original ID: Potentilla pinnatisecta (S. Wats.) A. Nels. No intermediates seen to P. diversifolia, no tomentose or digitate individuals. Stems decumbent at base, arching-ascending tips.
