Habitat: Near head of drainage bounded by steep sandy gravelly slopes with Amelanchior utahensis, Juniperus osteosperma, Lathyrus brachycalyx, Lepidium montanum. Locally common. Permian Cutler Formation.
Reproductive Condition: Flr
Notes: 7.5' Gateway quad. NAD27. Stems leafy to soil surface; bracts bright red, cut more deeply in back; corolla green; most plants in this area appear intermediate between C. scabrida and C. chromosa.
