US Rt. 277 and road to Rough Canyon Recreation Area. Central part of Devils River State Natural Area Southern Unit. Elev. 1600 ft.

Habitat: In patch of open shrubland on gentle N-facing slope of Salmon Peak Limestone, at line where convex ridgetop drops off into steep-sided canyon. Associates included Agave lechuguilla, Ancistrocactus uncinatus, Arenaria benthamii, Aristida sp., Astrolepis cf. integerrima, Berberis trifoliolata, Boerhavia linearifolia, Chaptalia texana, Dasylirion texanum, Forestiera reticulata, Juniperus sp. Mirabilis 30342, Notholaena copelandii, Passiflora tenuiloba, Penstemon baccharifolius, Phyllanthus polygonoides, Polygala ovatifolia, Quercus cf. pungens, Rhus virens, Selaginella lepidophylla, Sophora secundiflora, Triodanis coloradoensis, Yucca treculeana. Occasional, mostly under shrubs.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
