Habitat: Perennial; leaves short; occasional in grassland on gentle upper and lower slopes of shallow canyon with a mix of well drained calcareous loamy soils and outcrops of dolomite of the Blaine Formation (Permian). Grassland dominated by Andropogon hallii, Schizachyrium scoparium and Sorghastrum nutans; other associates include Amorpha canescens, Artemisia ludoviciana, Bouteloua curtipendula, Centaurea americana, Cirsium ochrocentrum, Echinacea angustifolia, Euphorbia missurica, Hedeoma drummondii, Liatris punctata, Paronychia jamesii, Prunus angustifolia, Stenosiphon linifolius, Vernonia sp., Yucca glauca.
Reproductive Condition: flowering + fruiting=mid
