Habitat: Dioecious shrub to 2 m tall or more; locally common on broad deep dry gravel bar on scour plain of major flood-prone stream. Associates include Ambrosia psilostachya, Brickellia dentata, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Croton monanthogynus, Justicia americana, Palafoxia callosa, Panicum virgatum, small Platanus occidentalis, Ricinus communis, Xanthium strumarium, great kiskadee.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
