Habitat: Occasional colonies in low- to medium-stature shrubland/shortgrass grassland on shallow, calcareous, moderately alkaline, light brownish gray, very gravelly loam (Lozier Series) on +/- level upland underlain by Cretaceous limestone (Washita Group). Associates include Acacia sp, Aristida purpurea, Boerhavia linearifolia, Croton dioicus, Cryptantha mexicana, Dalea formosa, Dalea wrightii, Dyssodia pentachaeta, Enneopogon desvauxii, Erioneuron pilosum, Gutierrezia sp., Hilaria mutica, Isocoma sp., Larrea tridentata, Lesquerella fendleri, Machaeranthera pinnatifida, Melampodium leucanthum, Parthenium incanum, Plantago helleri, Polygala macradenia, Portulaca pilosa, Prosopis glandulosa, Psilostrophe tagetoides, Tiquilia canescens, Tridens muticus, and Zinnia acerosa.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
