Higher dunes with scattered standing dead slash pine, and some yaupon and sand live oak near the north shore bordered on the south by a Spartina patens dominated marsh and bordered on the north by a larger lagoon.

Soil characteristics: St. Lucie sand (Su) - excessively drained soil on low ridges of the island, neutral to slightly acidic and rapidly permeable. Associate plant species: Pinus elliottii, Ilex vomitoria, Quercus geminata, Sorghastrum nutans, Rhus copallinum. Rare.
